about
Originally by Grapevine, Texas collective Mount Righteous
Mount righteous were an important band for me as a kid, a big band, full of friends, playing what they could no matter how poorly. I have always been enthralled by the collective mindset, favorite things being E6, Antifolk, or plan-it x, so I remember bursting with excitement as I saw Mount Righteous for the first time and learning their lyrics quick so I could scream along any chance I could. At this time a friend had showed me Joey Kendall’s solo stuff and the love deepened. The playfulness, earnestness and just all around feeling of appreciation and love I hadn’t really heard before and was like a new avenue of expression, clung on to that for most of my music life now. In time if my timidness, Joey and I would become friends and he’d often ask me to jump on shows and it felt like an accomplishment that someone i looked up to wanted me around, and didn’t mind my annoying folk-punk ass, punishing him every chance I got. Idk, just wanted to say I love Joey’s music and I wouldn’t be the same without it. He also sent me an omnichord for only postage cost a few years ago. Thank you, bud.
lyrics
You're an important document,
So I save your changes!
Got my head in the recycling bin,
And it's getting too full, my friend.
Re-calculate your estimates!
It shouldn't sound so dangerous!
Haven't you read the testaments?
Birds don't fly in stoves and cages!
Forget about the cost of it,
'Cause I know you'll make it!
I can tell you can! I tell you again,
You've got a gift, my gangly friend!
Forget about the rest of it!
You've gotta be outrageous!
You've gotta make the best of it!
Time will grant you greater stages!
